Advice Wanted!!

Hi there- a bit of advice please gals!! I've been invited by a work colleague to her son's 21st birthday party (they are sikhs). So, I don't want to dress over the top dressy dressy as there will be a lot of dressy, sparkly saris and a lot of younger girls also looking glammy.

I just want to go looking like I've made an effort but not over the top-I'm certainly not looking to compete-just blend in-ha ha!! Is this dress too daytime looking or could it be ideal? I think it could look dressier with some better accessories and sparkly jewellery-ie different earrings, necklace added, different sandals, clutch bag added? I would rather dress simply and add bits on, rather than have a glamorous dress. Plus, there will be a banquet dinner, so this dress being stretchy jersey would be most comfy-ha ha!

If not, I've just got a lovely Zandra Rhodes for Topshop kaftan chiffon top, which I might pair with trousers (yet to be bought). Any comments appreciated-thanks!

UPDATED TO ADD: THANKS VERY MUCH for all of your opinions and comments-they were all very much appreciated and taken on board. The general opinion is to go with the dress and accessorize with dangly type earrings, clutch and sandals-either these or a different pair. There were a couple of opinions towards the new Zandra Rhodes kaftan. Kate at makedoandmend had a brilliant idea of getting white trousers, which is a wardrobe staple anyway. I will try and get these by the party date, show pictures and come to a decision-with your help of course!!!

You will be right with the Caftan because you will give to the party a different touch and also you will be bright as the women wearing saris.

I'm thinking the dress suits your skin tone really well, and maybe you might want to do dangly earrings because the dress is patterned and a necklace might get lost.

Secondly, a clutch would be fab with that...

Me, I'm a keep it simple girl. :) I only wear 2 accessories at the most on any given day - necklace or earrings and a watch.

But you could do a fancy watch if you have one, or wear a cocktail ring along with the earrings.

The sandals are nice and nude, so they look fine to me.. and you want the dress to be the focus anyway right?

Love this dress. Go for it.

I think the dress would be great, it doesn't look too informal and it's also probably good that it's full lengeth, not too revealing. Add some fun accessories and go as yourself!

Hi Sharon! I love the dress, looks elegant and confortable in the same time, could be great wearing some sparkly jewels, as you proposed, and maybe a pair of particular sandals. By my side right accessories is the best way for your outfit!

The print on the dress is beautiful. In my opinion it can work really well as long as you wear some fabulous shoes you would wear for an evening event.... and maybe a clutch or something.

Also I would be glad to trade thinks with you. Adding you right now...

Hi, I think it is too daytime.
I like option 2 - I think you should think Miami glam and get some wide legs trousers in white to go with kaftan, add some sparkle and job done!

Hi vivi-Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and for your comment!I will keep this as a 2nd option-I do need decent trousers, though, so I will try to get some within a week if I can!!

Hi Nic-thanks so much for that!

Hi kirsty-thanks very much!

Hi fabulously broke-Yes, I would do either glammy earrings OR necklace and opt for my Anya Hindmarch clutch, whichh is cream silk with a fine gold thread running through it-I appreciate your advice on this! These sandals are comfy too, so I may stick with these then?

Hi Wendy-thanks so much! I'm pleased it's getting the thumbs up!!

Hi pamcasso-thanks so much-You're right, as long as I get the right accessories, I think I would feel a bit more dressier!

Hi alice-I think you are exactly right-I appreciate your opinion-thanks!

Hi ladies who lunch-thank you and thanks for stopping by my blog!!

Hi vain and vapid-thanks so much! I think I will do this-and I have put you on my list already-thanks!!

Hi - I did leave a comment but it seems to have not registered.

My view was dress was too day wear and thought option 2 would be great with wide leg white trousers - think Miami glam - just add bling and job done!

I love this dress on you, Sharon! I think it is summery, fresh and chic without screaming "look at me, I am fabulous". I don't even think you'd need too many accessories to it - it is so pretty as it is.
Have fun at the party!!

Hi dearest Ida-you are so lovely-thanks ever so much! I think I will go for the dress, but I also want to see if I can find white trousers to go with my new top-watch this space!

I vote for the dress, and bring on the bling!

The dress is very lovely Sharon, but I would also like to see the other option so I can decide which look I prefer. Either way, I'm sure you'll look great :)

Sharon S said...

Hi Nadine-thanks so much-thats kind of you!

Hi Silje-I appreciate that and to be honest I am highly likely going to do this!!

Hi danz! Thanks so much for your opinion-I need to hunt some white trousers though-I'm very picky where trousers are concerned, so if I don't get the 'right' pair, then I will opt for the dress! Watch this space!
