Sex and the City-90s fashion-wearable now?

I've noticed some fellow bloggers have been inspired by 90s fashion recently-this got me to thinking, well this was only 10 years ago in SATC terms and I was intrigued to see what the girls were wearing back then. Knowing particularly how stylish Carrie was and still is, I've shown some pictures of the girls and I personally feel that some, if not all of her outfits could be worn now, 10 years later-or at least give some style inspiration for now!! What do you think?
So 90's-so now? I love leggings anyway!

I love this fuschia dress!!

Cute capri pants!!

I love this floral dress-particularly the length-just different from wearing above the knee which seems to be so in for the past few years

I love this outfit-this looks timeless to me-a classic chic look for any era!

Another outfit that I feel is timeless too!

All good picks. I love the red jacket in the first photo.

I am not too keen on shoulder pads or over size suit jackets. Miranda's style was the most horrible during this time of SATC. But Charlotte was always prim and pretty, Samantha always oozed sex appeal and of course Carrie was the inventive creative chic woman we all know and love! Great article and photos!! :)

Hi Wendy-yes, its really vibrant and looks great with the leggings!!

Hi fashion chalet-Yes, I certainly agree that Carries style from the start was the most inventive, stylish and chicest! As you say, Samantha is sexy in style, Charlotte pretty and Miranda I think, just took a long while to get going in the fashion and style stakes! Some of her other outfits are not so bad though!!

Golly - that first picture is soooooo 90s! I like the look you picked of Carrie in the brown leather jacket and pleated skirt -- kinda 70s but totally timeless.

Hi always in style-yes I totally agree-this outfit really rocks!

i think most of Carrie's outfit's are wearable now =] Samanthata and Charlotte's style has always stayed true whereas Carrie and Miranda's outfits have developed over the years which is a positive thing of course! great picks!

Hi madamedior-yes, I think you're right and I think Carries style is generally timeless, too.

Though the 90s SATC looks aren't my personal fave, they are definitely coming back . . . the shoulder-padded red jacket and the conservative knife-pleat skirt, in particular. Btw, would love to trade links - just added you to my blogroll! xoxo CC

Just goes to show, SATC is always in style! It's so surprising to see those looks and how relevant they are now

Sharon S said...

Hi fashion dreamer-yes, too true, there isn't many tv shows can lay claim to that even now!

Ida said...

My lovely Sharon, you've just described it so precisely - Carrie's style is timeless. I really can't think of all the outfits of hers that I have seen and that haven't been an inspiration to me. Same goes for SJP actually.

Cait said...

no matter what they always had style in every decade.

I'm not all that in for the shoulder pads, but the color of the jacket it poppin'. Most of the other looks are pretty timeless, since fashion has regressed through all the major decades, 90's, 80's, 70's, 60's mod, 50''s,
40's, etc. I think I like the last two looks on Carrie because they are so feminine and pretty. In spite of certain designers pushing a more masculine look for women, as far as I'm concerned, feminine will never go out of style.

Great post.

I had to tell you, you look so beautiful in the 1950's vintage dress and the Marc Jacobs Silk Tea Dress.

Stunning!

i love the 90s. in the 90s, i wasn't directly fashion-concious, but i lived in the 90s and i loved the lifestyle and wanted to be like all the in-people i saw on TV - and i think it's so interesting to see the 90s in retrospect. because i LIVED in the 90s, it is even more interesting for me to read what people write about the 90s than, say, the 40s, because i wasn't born then.

Sharon S said...

Hi Cate-I feel like that about the 80s, as that was the decade I went to partys and discos and had fun! I loved the fashion scene back then too!

yiqin; said...

I always admired Miranda for daring to be herself. She is always firm on her stands & on what she wants! I feel that anything is wearable, how you wear it is more important!

Sharon S said...

Hi Yiqin-this last comment is exactly right-thanks so much!!

the outfits from SATC have been permanently imprinted, burned and emblazoned into my mind. i feel that style is always timeless, what with the wheels of fashion turning. i say, there are no rules, no such thing as following fads blindly, and about what suits you.

therein, you really blossom.

take for instance, carrie's character. no doubt she's styled ingeniously by fields, but it suits the persona of her character, and no matter how outrageous some of the outfits are, they look perfect on her.

whether it's 90s, 80s, 30s, 20s. .. if you're feeling it, go for it!

Sharon S said...

Hi p-you've a real insight of style and I'm a great admirer of you and your blog-thanks for your lovely comment!

Fifi Flowers said...

timeless is best... classic can last FOREVER! always back to basic!

I think a better plot for the story would be all the girls get rich like in the show "Roseanne". BUt instead of just wasting the money, they help people like the homeless.

Bluukbob said...

great pick!

i love the last picture on SJA. it is a really really nice dress/skirt with lovely prints on it!

xoxo

I've never been a big fan of early 90s fashion, it's not me. Carrie though can do no wrong.

Mmm great post! I think Miranda definately had the worst clothes back then, and the worst haircuts! And even the worst boyfriends! I just remember the scene where she sees some ex-boyfriend who broke her heart ( Eric or something I think) and she hides behind a lampost, she is wearing this horrible anorak!! Poor Miranda!

Sharon S said...

Hi soph-yes, I agree about miranda-such a shame-haha!!
