Advice Wanted!!

Hi there- a bit of advice please gals!! I've been invited by a work colleague to her son's 21st birthday party (they are sikhs). So, I don't want to dress over the top dressy dressy as there will be a lot of dressy, sparkly saris and a lot of younger girls also looking glammy.

I just want to go looking like I've made an effort but not over the top-I'm certainly not looking to compete-just blend in-ha ha!! Is this dress too daytime looking or could it be ideal? I think it could look dressier with some better accessories and sparkly jewellery-ie different earrings, necklace added, different sandals, clutch bag added? I would rather dress simply and add bits on, rather than have a glamorous dress. Plus, there will be a banquet dinner, so this dress being stretchy jersey would be most comfy-ha ha!

If not, I've just got a lovely Zandra Rhodes for Topshop kaftan chiffon top, which I might pair with trousers (yet to be bought). Any comments appreciated-thanks!

UPDATED TO ADD: THANKS VERY MUCH for all of your opinions and comments-they were all very much appreciated and taken on board. The general opinion is to go with the dress and accessorize with dangly type earrings, clutch and sandals-either these or a different pair. There were a couple of opinions towards the new Zandra Rhodes kaftan. Kate at makedoandmend had a brilliant idea of getting white trousers, which is a wardrobe staple anyway. I will try and get these by the party date, show pictures and come to a decision-with your help of course!!!

New Shorts?-D-I-Y then!!

Thanks dear Pamcasso (squareoldsoul.blogspot.com) and Kate (makedostyle.blogspot.com). They have both drawn up lists of essential wardrobe basics and as I only have one other pair of short shorts, I have been inspired to accomplish number 21 on Pamcasso's list -denim shorts.

As I had in excess of ten pairs of jeans, I thought I would do a touch of D-I-Y (do it yourself) and make a pair of denim shorts from a pair of Levi's 501's that I didn't wear much.

We are going to Eastbourne (a beach resort on the south coast of England) in August, so these will be ideal to wear on the beach-my days of wearing short shorts on the street are long gone-ha ha!! They will also do for wearing in the garden on hot days when we have the kids paddling pool out or when we have a barbeque. Thanks again for your style inspiration, Pamcasso!!

Boot Sale Sunday!!

Today I went to the boot sale at Noak Hill. The weather was verging on rain-again, so I dashed around rather quickly.

I found this super Topshop brown leather fringed bag for only £1-I know another bag again, but fringes are in this summer, plus its leather and a bargain!!

My outfit is an ecletic mix of old and new-I am wearing an original 60s cardigan-I love the style and colour-a perfect cover up for this unreliable weather we are having at the moment. My t shirt is vintage by Commes Des Garcons-it says Un, Deux Trois! My jeans are the newest item, rolled up with a rockabilly 50s vibe, I think!!

My Homage to the 80's- My Favourite Film, The Business

As a lot of you are paying homage to the 80s I thought I would join in and show you a clip from my one of my favourite films, The Business. It stars Georgina Chapman, who is now the other half of Marchesa-the designer duo currently dressing most of Hollywood in couture dresses.
