The Times:7 ways with a pencil skirt

I still haven't worn my season basic that I bought last year-this black stretch pencil skirt by Marks and Spencer was only £3.99 from the Heart Foundation charity shop and I really want to start wearing it.

I was pleased to find this article by the Times, thanks to Jane at The Small Fabric of my Life who was suitably inspired in her current capsule wardrobe challenge.

My favourite ways to wear this skirt will be with either a long cardigan and shirt, a plain tee and belt, blazer and shirt or a silky top.

Will you be in a pencil skirt this season?

Er, no I'm not that glamorous. But I do like the pencil skirt with the long cardi idea - and the baggy check shirt option.

I do love a pencil skirt - I wore my last one out with over wearing.

I normally don't wear pencil skirts as my job requires a lot of running. But I love to see women wearing one... they look so glamorous and so elegant. xoxo

Hiya Sharon - yes, I will! I've just ordered one from Tesco online, very cheap in the sale, as I've been hankering after one for ages!

I'd wear it with a long cardigan. Can't wait to see how it will look when you wear it.

I think the plain tee and belt would make the look simple and sleek!

(Personally, I'm still trying to figure out terms like "pencil skirts" and "boyfriend jeans". I THINK the pencil skirt is what I've always called a straight skirt...and if so, yes! I'll be in a pencil skirt now and then.)

I have something kind of like this but I haven't worn it yet. I have something with the three tier kind of ruffle..I'll probably wear that more. Then I got something that was on sale thats just a little ruffle skirt in black..and I do wonder how that is going to stand under the conditions of school and laundry. But at the moment..leggins, boots and a skirt I made from a sweater dress.

That's a beautiful skirt and I can see you looking elegant but sassy in it.
Pencil skirts do nothing for my shape but I love to see them on other women, especially with a prim pussy bow blouse.

The pencil skirt was my best buy ever for working wardrobe. I wear mine with a ruffle shirt & cropped cardi. So very vesitile and yes a smaller size does make a better fit!

I am ridiculously petite but I think I will definitely try a pencil skirt because I like how it elongates me..that's always a plus!

I have a bunch of pencil skirts (all denim) and I love wearing them with summer tops! Much better than jeans when it gets really hot, as it always does around here.
