Thrift Inspiration, Double Denim's New Dawn at Grazia

I've noticed that nearly everyone is being very frugal and thrifty as we start the new year and two of my last purchases of 2011-just after Christmas, were a denim shirt and some coloured denim skinny jeans. These are items that I can wear now and also in the summer and will always be on trend.

So after getting my New Years Grazia on Thursday for just £1 as I used the prior editions discount voucher, I was pleased to see my new purchases were totally inspirational for Grazias fashion feature-Denim's New Dawn:

There is a lot of double denim going on, a trend that really took off last year and not only is blue denim featured, coloured denim is in the mix too:

The feature suitably inspired todays casual outfit, which is my denim shirt by H&M, scarlet red denim skinny jeans by Next and purple wool cardigan which I bought a couple of years ago from Uniqlo and is still going strong. The shirt and jeans were thrifted from my local Sue Ryder charity shop-both came to less than a tenner too!!

I'm on the look out for another feminine cut denim shirt with gold rivet fastenings, this one has silver and is short sleeved, making it a really versatile item for winter and summer, as are the coloured skinny jeans.

What is on your style radar for the new summer season?

Thrifty trend setting!

I know it seems sad eBaying everything but this year I am determined to pay off the credit card. I know you feel much better for all your efforts.

I'd love some coloured skinny jeans - well I'd love to have the body that could fit into them! You look super in yours - you have the longer length legs as well, which is always a bonus. I'm off to Australia in a couple of weeks and I'll be packing my summer wardrobe from my 2009 visit as I've hardly had the chance to wear it in the UK since and there's nothing very appealing in the shops yet. Luckily it's mostly linen with a touch of classic French riviera style (ie navy and white with stripes.) But I shall keep checking the local charity shops in case a nice Kaftan or maxi dress is put out on the rails before I go. Cx

I'd love some coloured jeans like that but I just CAN'T find any the right shape for me!

I have been thinking a lot about denim shirts recently and believe that they should become one of our wardrobe staples.

I nabbed a couple of hubby's old denim shirts last year, and do you know I always forget about them. They are in a drawer, and I see other people looking cool in their denim shirts and think I must wear mine... and then forget about them again. I must make a concerted effort to wear them because I love the laid back look of denim shirts. x

I have never been able to make the double denim work but it looks great with the coloured denim. I would really love some coloured jeans but an not buying anything new and haven't seen any in a charity shop yet.

Wonderful color blocking! I want to try different colors together but I'm scared it won't look good on me.
