MyStyle Summer Trend: Sleeveless

With the temperamental weather we are having here in the UK, my main staple of choice for this summer is a sleeveless waistcoat, gilet, bolero or cardigan.

If you like denim, then why not check out the denim jeans at Ellos. They also have a great collection of jeans for men. Check out the website now at http://www.ellos.co.uk/.

I thought I would do a few inspirational posts of my sleeveless pieces and this first post is based on denim and leather. This sort of piece depending on style-ie denim, leather, crochet, sequin, wool is ideal for this season, especially over a dress as you can still see the niceness of it but be slightly covered up for day or night if necessary.

The first denim gilet was originally a denim jacket which you can see in my header post and I decided to cut the sleeves off to make it more versatile and wearable for summer. The jacket is by MOTO-Topshop and I thrifted it last year at the charity shop for around £3.

This 3rd waistcoat was won on Ebay a few weeks ago when I asked for styling advice for something to go with my Vintage Liberty shorts and Hunza skirt.

The lovely Vintage Vixen suggested a denim waistcoat and I really liked this idea, as you can see if you click here, she styles her's to perfection and always wears it in very inspirational ways.

This Topshop waistcoat was won for less than £5 and I'm sure I'll get a lot of wear out of it.
My next couple of posts will feature more 'glam' sleeveless pieces and some 'crotchet and wool' pieces- for summer day and nights I really think they are so stylish and versatile.

Whats your 'Go To' or 'Must Have' style item for summer?
This second sleeveless piece is a brown leather gilet which I found a couple of weeks ago at the boot sale for just £2. Its an ideal cover over a cami top and jeans or over a dress:

Some great waistcoats. I loved how you adapted the topshop jacket. i will be on the look out next time I am in the charity shop in order to do this. Hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new one!

Ooh love them all, especially the first one. I think they are so useful for adding another layer in our patchy summer months but also look fab.
I hope you don't think I'm too spammy in leaving this link but I blogged about making your own sleeveless denim jacket this week -

Dear Sharon,
all your waistcoats are fabulous.
I just scored a vintage leather one the other day, it's a smaller size so it's perfect to team with dresses and suchlike. My fave at the mo is my vintage 70s suede lace up waistcoat, you may have spotted it if you've seen any of my more my recent ensembles, so frigging versatile & funky to boot ;)
Take care luv,
Jennie

Great pieces, I'll keep an eye out for a denim jacket to customise. Sadly I haven't got my go-to summer pieces sorted yet. At the moment I keep wearing some nude flat sandals that I got a primark last year, they seem to go with a lot of outfits. xx

My summer must have has got to be a pair of wide leg palazzo pants. Summery, but can be worn with leggings underneath if it's cold. Dress up with heels, or down with flats. What more could you ask for?? Love love the leather gilet by the way, amazing finds, as always :) x

Love these, but I'm really after a 60s Woodstock-y type one at the moment...

Waistcoats rock. They are so versatile whatever the season!

My mission is to find some nice silk turn up, but not harem, trousers! I saw some today but none in my size. :-( x

I love the brown leather one; its very rock-chic!
I only have a black vest that I got to go to a concert and then decided not to wear it, so maybe I would wear this Summer.

I have a Next denim waistcoat which I have had for quite a few years but I am glad I have kept hold of it. It came in very handy yesterday when my eldest borrowed it to wear to the Wireless Festival. I love the leather gilet, really nice. Hope all is well your end and that you have a lovely weekend x

Brilliant waistcoats. I have recently got a collared one and a bit stuck as how to style it, so I'm looking forward as to how you style yours.

(I'm sorry for the delay to posting your prize. Too much uni work. It will be on its way next week, I promise x)

Great selection! I like the classic waistcoat style the most - it's such a good way to look chic without much effort. Hope you had a lovely weekend!

I love the Topshop waistcoat :) My go-to for summer is the maxi dress. It's not original, but it's obvious why it's so popular - throw it on and go.
